Encountering the Nanashii Lineage: Descended from a Hypabricon-Winning Individual

For me, captivated by the charm of plecos and constantly delving into their profound world, the existence of lineage fish has always been a special interest. In particular, the Nanashii lineage, bred by Mr. Nagisa (723), had caught my attention due to its track record and reputation, and I secretly wished to welcome one into my tank someday. The fact that this lineage is descended from an individual that won the Grand Prix at “Hypabricon,” an event closely watched by many pleco enthusiasts, spoke volumes about the high quality of this bloodline.
This Nanashii lineage has a solid background, being parented by siblings of the individual that won the Grand Prix at “Hypabricon” in 2022. I was strongly drawn to the potential and genetic intrigue of this lineage. On one occasion, I was able to acquire an individual from this splendid lineage at a great price. My long-held aspiration became a reality, and for several days until it arrived, I was filled with anticipation, preparing the aquarium.
First Impression of the Individual: Slender and Wild-Type Body

The Nanashii Lineage Wild F2 Imperial Zebra that actually arrived did not disappoint my expectations; it was a magnificent individual. At 4.7cm, it is still a juvenile with much growth to look forward to. This size allows for the joy of carefully raising it over time, and I believe that observing its daily changes is the true pleasure of being an aquarist.
Its body shape is very slender, giving a sharper and more refined impression compared to typical Imperial Zebra Plecos. I was immediately captivated by its toned silhouette, which somehow reminded me of a wild-caught individual. Its graceful yet powerful swimming in the tank is particularly eye-catching. Also, at first glance, it gave off a feminine vibe, but it’s still difficult to determine the sex of a juvenile of this size. However, if it is indeed a female, my expectations for future breeding naturally increase, and even just the possibility is exciting.
Characteristics of the Nanashii Lineage: Expectations for Reverse Pattern Individuals

One significant characteristic of the Nanashii lineage is the confirmed appearance of reverse pattern individuals among the siblings of the parent fish. This suggests that this lineage holds the potential to produce individuals with unusual and special expressions in future generations. While the individual I welcomed currently displays the beautiful standard Imperial Zebra pattern, knowing this lineage background increases my anticipation for future pattern changes and for the next generation, should breeding be successful.
Of course, special individuals do not necessarily appear every time. However, the fact that it harbors such genetic potential makes me feel the depth and fascination of pleco keeping. Without exaggerating, I cannot help but be drawn to the genetic diversity and unknown possibilities that this lineage possesses. Daily observations will undoubtedly become even more interesting, and I find myself spending more time gazing into the aquarium.
Keeping the Wild F2 Since Its Arrival

Several weeks have passed since I welcomed the Nanashii Lineage Wild F2 Imperial Zebra into the tank, and it seems to have quickly adapted to its new environment. Its appetite is excellent; it promptly devours any food given. Each time I see it energetically swimming around the tank or resting in its favorite hiding spot, I feel truly glad I chose this individual. Its health is also good, and I am relieved to be providing a stable environment.
As it is still a juvenile, I am very much looking forward to seeing how it will grow and what changes in body color and pattern it will display. Especially considering the potential this lineage holds, daily observations become even more fascinating. While hoping it grows large and healthy, I intend to continue providing the optimal environment and caring for it with affection. I am reminded that one of the greatest pleasures of pleco keeping is being able to closely observe such growth processes, and I believe that the days ahead with this individual will further enrich my pleco life.
Summary
Welcoming Mr. Nagisa’s Nanashii Lineage Wild F2 Imperial Zebra has brought new joy and anticipation to my pleco keeping. Its very slender, wild-type body, and the future possibilities inherent in its lineage, being descended from a 2022 Hypabricon Grand Prix winner. I hold quiet yet firm expectations for its future growth and for the appearance of the next generation, should I be able to attempt breeding in the future. Through this one individual, I have once again felt the profound depth of plecos and the special allure of lineage fish. I intend to continue raising it with great care.
